Lee Corso trends following national championship decision

Lee Corso will not be on hand Monday night when Indiana plays Miami for the national championship.

The longtime face of College GameDay is expected to watch from his home in Florida rather than attend the title game between the Indiana Hoosiers and Miami Hurricanes, according to multiple reports.

Corso, who officially stepped away from weekly appearances after a final sendoff in Week 1 before the Texas-Ohio State showdown, has deep ties to Indiana.

The former ESPN analyst coached the Hoosiers from 1973 to 1982 and delivered one of the program’s defining moments by leading Indiana to a win over unbeaten BYU in the 1979 Holiday Bowl, which was the school’s first bowl victory.

ESPN reporter Jen Lada said Corso remains closely connected to the program’s remarkable run.

“Talked to Coach Corso this morning & he is obviously thrilled about the Hoosiers’ trip to the National Championship Game,” Lada wrote on social media. “Will watch from his Florida home. He loves Fernando Mendoza.”

The college football landscape had speculated if Corso might make a rare appearance with the game being played in his home state, but unfortunately, it won't happen.

Indiana’s return to the sport’s biggest stage comes over four decades after Corso’s signature bowl win, making the moment significant even from afar for one of college football’s most beloved figures.

The Hoosiers is currently a heavy favorite against the Hurricanes. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET Monday on ESPN.
