LeBron James picked up the chalk on the scorer’s table Sunday night as he does before every game. He rubbed his hands together and then — poof — a cloud of chalk floated into the air.

A chorus of “woos” broke out from fans as they witnessed James’ famous pre-tip ritual for what could be the last time at Madison Square Garden. Purple-and-gold jerseys with “James” and “6” or “23” emblazoned on the back were peppered all around the arena to watch the 22-time All-Star drop 22 points, six assists and five rebounds in a 112-100 loss to the Knicks.

James’ days in the Association are numbered. The 41-year-old is in his record 23rd season. He’s racked up plenty of miles over those years, having gone to 10 NBA Finals and winning four championships.

No one knows for certain whether this season will be his last, though he’s currently playing out his longtime dream of sharing the floor with a son, with Bronny James powering through his rookie campaign.
