The Lakers were defeated Thursday night, losing the battle of Los Angeles to the Clippers by eight points. Despite facing a 26-point deficit early on, the Lakers fought back, outscoring the Clippers in the second half but ultimately it was not enough.
The loss marked the Lakers' sixth loss in their last nine games. Additionally, the loss contributed an unfortunate trend against their in-town rivals. Since the 2020-2021 season, the Lakers are 7-15 against the Clippers.
Luka Doncic led the way for the Lakers, scoring a game-high 32 points to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and just one turnover.
LeBron James finished the night with 24 points, six assists, five rebounds, two steals and four turnovers. Following the game, James was asked by the media if he'd like to remain with the Lakers for the remainder of the season. James' response wasn't really a response, as he said: "I'm good. I'm good, I'm good." before leaving the room.
Ever since Doncic joined the Lakers, there has been rumors surrounding James' relationship with the team, suggesting turmoil has arisen between the 23-year veteran and the front office. As a result, there have been speculations of James departing via trade for a while.
That said, it may be tough for the Lakers to find trade partners. Although James has performed well this year, given his age (41) and his uncertain future, teams may be unwilling to spend assets on acquiring him.
Additionally, with James holding a no-trade clause, the team would likely have to be a contender for him to consider moving.
