The Laver Cup rosters are starting to take shape.
The competition announced on Tuesday that Holger Rune and Joao Fonseca are joining Team Europe and Team World, respectively, for the tournament. The young stars are a few of the up-and-coming players in the sport, and have been tapped as part of the selective group of players to participate in this event.
Rune, a 22-year-old from Denmark, currently ranks No. 10 in the ATP who has five titles in his ATP career, including one at the Barcelona Open earlier this year. He is a three-time major quarterfinalist, but has not made it to the semifinals in any major so far.
Fonseca, on the other hand, is an 18-year-old from Brazil who is also a rising star in the sport. He currently ranks just No. 65 on the ATP world rankings, but he did win his first ATP tournament earlier this year in Buenos Aires. Additionally, he was the junior world No. 1 in 2023 and also won the most recent Next Gen ATP Finals.
This year's Laver Cup captains, Yannick Noah for Europe and Andre Agassi for the World, announced the additions as two players who will each be participating in their first Laver Cups. Both Rune and Fonseca will be marked as captains' picks if they do not qualify naturally.

What is the Laver Cup?
The Laver Cup is an indoor team tennis competition between the best European players and the best players from the rest of the world. First played in 2017, the tournament is a three-day event featuring 12 of the best players in the world, six on each team.
The tournament is in honor of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, who won 11 majors in his career, all during the 1960s, including winning the Grand Slam in 1962.
So far, in seven Laver Cups, Europe has a 5-2 lead over the World, as Europe won each of the first four events before the World won two straight. Last year, Europe snapped its two-tournament losing streak with a victory.
When is the Laver Cup?
The Laver Cup always takes place two weeks after the U.S. Open championship. This year, that will be September 19-21, which is also the week before Golf's Ryder Cup begins between American and European golfers.
Where is the Laver Cup?
Every year, the Laver Cup alternates between locations in Europe and the rest of the world, which so far has been just North America. This year, the Laver Cup will take place in San Francisco, as the Chase Center will host the entire tournament.
