With their season on the line, the New York Yankees found themselves in a five-run hole early. Carlos Rodon had nothing and the Toronto Blue Jays offense continued to thrive.
However, the Yankees chipped away and saved their season with a huge comeback. Led by Aaron Judge, who hit a game-tying three-run home run, New York gets to live another day.
The comeback almost mirrored New York's loss in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series, when the team blew a five-run lead to the Los Angeles Dodgers. This comeback made history in of itself, though, as very few teams have erased that kind of deficit while facing elimination.

The biggest comeback in an elimination game was by the Boston Red Sox, who overcame a seven-run deficit at home in Game 5 against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox also won Game 6 of that series, but lost a decisive Game 7.
Right behind Boston, the St. Louis Cardinals erased a six-run deficit against the Washington Nationals in Game 5 of the 2012 NLDS to win the final game of the series.
Three games are now tied for third on this list, including Game 6 of the 2002 World Series. the Los Angeles Angels, then the Anaheim Angels, fought off elimination to force a Game 7, which they would go on to win.
Additionally, in 1995, the Seattle Mariners forced Game 5 against the Yankees with a five-run comeback of their own in Game 4 of the ALDS.
