Los Angeles Police Department officials struggled to answer questions about the killing of beloved Hollywood icon Rob Reiner and his wife at a chaotic press conference outside the director’s home.

Members of the media flocked to the Reiner’s Brentwood mansion after learning that 78-year-old legend and his 68-year-old wife, Michele, were killed there on Sunday afternoon allegedly by their troubled 32-year-old son, Nick.

Police hosted a disorganized press conference there hours later, but revealed minimal details about the slaying — and did not even identify Reiner and his wife as the victims.

The briefing started around 8:50 p.m. local time and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s log indicates Nick Reiner was arrested around 9:15 p.m.

But LAPD Detective Chief Alan Hamilton would not confirm if police had identified a suspect or had anyone in custody.

“I understand there are going to be some questions regarding what occurred here tonight, I will not be able to provide information in a lot of areas … but I’ll do the best that I can,” LAPD Detective Chief Alan Hamilton told a crowd of reporters.

Those who watched the presser live were left confused and wanting more information.

“The LAPD press conference on the murder of Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner was an unmitigated disaster…incompetence isn’t the right word,” said journalist Yashar Ali.”

“That LA Deputy chief of detectives Alan Hamilton just gave the most useless  update on the murders of Reiner & his wife!  What a dufus! Why did he even bother? Unbelievable!” another user on X wrote.

Some six hours after 911 was called reporting the Reiners’ deaths, police were still in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the property to investigate what happened, he said.

Meanwhile, a neighbor told The Post that comedian Billy Crystal — a longtime friend of Reiner — was spotted arriving at the home.

Larry David was also seen at the home following the murders and Crystal “looked like he was about to cry,” according to ABC 7.

Another press conference is expected at some point Monday, KTLA reported.

Nick Reiner, who had been open about his struggles with drug addiction, is charged with murder and is being held on a $4 million bond, sources told The Post.

The couple’s daughter Romy, found her parents’ throats slashed around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and told cops that she believed a family member “should be suspect,” TMZ reported.
