Many things went well for the Houston Astros, allowing them to record a lopsided 8-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday.
One of those things is the outstanding performance from veteran starting pitcher, Lance McCullers Jr., who put together what many people have called a 'masterpiece,' with a seven-inning outing totaling nine strikeouts.
Monday was the longest start McCullers Jr. has had since the 2022 season, when he also went seven innings against another AL East team in the Tampa Bay Rays.

The right-handed pitcher dealt with multiple injuries that kept him out of action for two full seasons before returning in 2025, when he pitched in 16 games.
McCullers Jr. let out a massive roar after collecting his final strikeout on the night against Red Sox left fielder Masataka Yoshida to cap off his 96-pitch outing, as it was clear how good it felt after a long road back.
"I've just been really focused on just trying not to worry about the past or the future and just enjoy the moment and go out there and compete as hard as I can", McCullers exclaimed.
Last month, McCullers expressed how much he wanted to deliver solid performances for Astros fans in what could be his final year with the team and maybe even the league, as he is in the last season of his five-year contract he signed with the team in 2021.
If the veteran can continue to duplicate or come close to repeating Monday's performances, he will do more than fulfill his promise to the fans, and it could lead to McCullers Jr. playing a huge role in the Astros making another run at a World Series title.
