The Los Angeles Lakers have been very aggressive over the past 24 hours, and it's led to excitement among many fans.
Other fans aren't very happy with the moves the Lakers have made, though I think Los Angeles has done what it needed to do and should be a much better team than it was a year ago if things go as planned.
Of course, the Lakers will need Austin Reaves to be healthy for all of this to work out, but adding guys like Walker Kessler should be a step in the right direction. At the same time, this is the Lakers we're talking about, and they typically find a way to land stars.
That's why the latest suggestion, though it's very unlikely, probably can't be counted out, as crazy as it might sound and as much as it might bother some fans. The idea was to move on from Reaves and others to land Nikola Jokic, pairing him with Luka Doncic.
“While they have $52 million in cap space this summer, they won't have any next summer if they sign players to multi-year deals. That means they'd only be able to land Jokic via a sign-and-trade.
“That puts the Lakers in a bit of a bind. They likely can't go all out signing players this summer if the possibility remains that Jokic could be available next summer. Or they could use Austin Reaves as a centerpiece of a sign-and-trade with the Nuggets—if Jokic wanted to join the Lakers next summer,” Cal Durrett wrote.
After the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Miami Heat, it feels like Jokic could be the next player who gets dealt in terms of that magnitude.
Because the Denver Nuggets haven't done enough to put talent around him over the past few years, it's fair to suggest that he could get frustrated at some point. I don't think that will happen, as Jokic doesn't seem to be the type of guy to get too upset about not having a perfect team around him, and often blames himself if his team doesn't win, but there could be a moment when he gets frustrated and eventually requests to be moved.
And that's an area where the Lakers would be all over him, though I highly doubt they'll have nearly enough assets to even come close to trading for him.
