Lakers sign 24-year-old Villanova star forward after NBA Draft letdown

The Los Angeles Lakers remained busy after the NBA Draft concluded on Thursday.

The franchise elected to sign a 24-year-old Villanova star forward who wasn’t fortunate enough to hear his name get called.

“Villanova star Eric Dixon has agreed to a two-way NBA contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. “Dixon was the No. 1 scorer in college basketball last season, shooting 41% from three-point range."

Individuals should give Dixon a round of applause for his remarkable play on a talent-deprived Wildcats squad.

Dixon, who helped the 2021-22 Jay Wright-led Villanova squad reach the Final Four, led the nation in scoring this past season while competing with a dysfunctional Big East team coached by Kyle Neptune.

The former Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball Award winner is a jack-of-all-trades forward.

When matched up against opponents who don’t respect his perimeter jumper, Dixon will employ one fierce jab step before making them pay more often than not.

When opponents overplay Dixon in an attempt to eliminate his three-point shooting opportunities, the third-year All-American won’t hesitate to put the ball on the floor and read the floor before making a calculator off-the-dribble decision.

Dixon averaged 23.3 points per game while shooting 45.1% from the field and 40.7% from long range.

Although Dixon was likely bummed that an NBA franchise didn’t draft him, he has a tremendous opportunity ahead of him with the Lakers.
