Lakers predicted to sign $8M ex-Pelicans former first-round pick, tenacious versatile defender

Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are looking to lead the Los Angeles Lakers in the right direction after not having LeBron James on the team for the first time in almost a decade. However, the organization hasn’t exactly put the roster in the best position possible.

The Lakers are still looking to add players, but at the same time, if they can’t, they will have to cut some people. Three names are believed to be on the chopping block.

“Clearly, the Lakers need to dump someone, and I think it's going to be one of three players," Lakers insider Jovan Buha said. "It's going to either be Dalton Knecht, Jaden Hardy, or Bronny James."

However, that doesn’t mean LA can’t add anyone else to the roster. They just have to get down to 15 players by November. Lake Show Life’s Chris Lambert believes the team should sign young guy Micah Peavy to a deal if he is released by the Memphis Grizzlies.

“If Peavy ends up being someone the Grizzlies cut ties with because of roster overflow, the Lakers need to take a look. Getting him on a two-way deal this season would give them a developmental project who has already shown he’s an NBA-level defender and can become a real impact piece on offense,” Lambert wrote.

Peavy was just traded to the Grizzlies in a deal featuring former first-round draft pick Jordan Hawkins. The Grizzlies acquired Hawkins and Peavy from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for AJ Johnson, Taj Gibson, a future second-round draft pick and a future second-round pick swap.

“The New Orleans Pelicans have traded Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy, a future second-round draft pick and a future second-round pick swap to the Memphis Grizzlies for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.

Peavy’s numbers don’t suggest that he is the best scorer by any means, but on defense, he is a hound on the ball. The Lakers would be smart to at least get him on a two-way deal if possible, so he can play in some games and guard the best player.

Peavy is currently on his $8 million rookie contract. All of this depends on him getting cut by Memphis. If he does, LA doesn’t need to hesitate to get the young guy, as they can develop him into something.
