Lakers predicted to part ways with Bronny James if he fails to follow JJ Redick's blueprint

The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to continue the success the organization has experienced during the first two seasons under head coach JJ Redick. This season will mark the first in nearly a decade that LA will be without LeBron James.

The Lakers have put themselves in a difficult position with the roster, as they are currently over the league’s roster limit. The team has until after training camp to get down to 15 players.

“There are, however, obvious holes. With 16 roster spots, the Lakers would need to get rid of at least one player, though they can carry as many as 20 through training camp in October," Heavy.com's Sean Deveney wrote.

There are several names on the chopping block, and some of them should not come as much of a surprise. Players projected to be on the brink of being waived include Bronny James, Dalton Knecht and Jaden Hardy.

"Clearly, the Lakers need to dump someone, and I think it's going to be one of three players," Lakers insider Jovan Buha said. "It's going to either be Dalton Knecht, Jaden Hardy, or Bronny James."

All three options are young players with potential if they can continue developing. James, in particular, is someone the Lakers could look to incorporate into the rotation if he can make the strides Redick is looking for. Lake Show Life’s Tyler Watts believes the Lakers could eventually move on from him if he fails to do so.

“The Lakers must quickly figure it out. Bronny has to improve and cement himself in the rotation. Redick gave him the blueprint, but James isn’t following it. Bronny has an opportunity. That is all fans can ask for after his first two years. Now it is on the guard to adapt, or it will be time for the purple and gold to move on,” Watts wrote.

James was a second-round pick two summers ago and has already received meaningful minutes with the Lakers. However, the organization is looking for him to take the next step rather than simply serve as a fill-in when needed.

The opportunity is there for James, and he knows what is expected of him. However, if he cannot fulfill those expectations, the Lakers may not think twice about moving on. LA has plenty to prove this season, but the possibility of James being let go is certainly something worth monitoring.
