n Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers completed a roster move that many won’t comprehend initially.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Lakers are officially cutting ties with 6-foot-3 ex-Boston Celtics All-Defensive guard and NBA champion who’s four years removed from his last appearance in a Los Angeles uniform.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have officially renounced the free agent rights to LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Dion Waiters, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Maxi Kleber, Nick Smith Jr, Jared Dudley, Avery Bradley, Jaxson Hayes, Markieff Morris, and Wayne Ellington,” Scotto said on X/Twitter.

Essentially, the Lakers renounced the free-agent rights of Bradley and several other current and former contributors to create room for their new free-agent additions (Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes, and Collin Sexton).

Bradley was a beneficial three-and-D asset for the Lakers in 2019-20, averaging 8.6 points and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 44.4% from the field and 36.4% from three-point on a LeBron James-led championship squad.

The Texas product, who was an all-world two-way stud with the Celtics in his prime, briefly departed the Lakers before re-joining the organization in 2021-22. Once again, Bradley played his role well, contributing 6.4 points and 0.9 steals on 42.3% shooting from the field and 39.0% from beyond the arc.

The Lakers failed to punch their ticket to the postseason, though, causing Bradley to end his career on a sour note. On the bright side, the former No. 19 overall pick carved out a respectable career for himself in the big leagues and captured a title before it was all said and done.
