The Los Angeles Lakers are starting to get excited about their 2025 NBA Draft pick Adou Thiero. The rookie has battled injuries both in the offseason and during the season, but he has been lighting it up with the South Bay Lakers. His most recent game is a sign of great things to come.
“When the Los Angeles Lakers moved up to select Adou Thiero with the 36th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, there was a clear idea of not only what he was, but what the athletic forward could become. The latter firmly relied on Thiero improving one pivotal aspect of his game — his shooting,” Lake Show Life’s Svyatoslav Rovenchuk wrote. Thiero’s latest outing for the South Bay Lakers showcased the performance both fans and the team had been waiting to see. In an exciting 113–104 win over the Santa Cruz Warriors on Sunday, Thiero’s 3-point shot was falling, as he scored 25 points in 28 minutes, going 5-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Despite Thiero’s success, Lakers head coach JJ Redick quickly shut down any notion of him earning a spot in the rotation.
“I was pushing for it early in the year, definitely want to get him chances. But those opportunities are not there right now,” Redick said.
The Lakers are set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, but a flurry of moves came beforehand.
“The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned guards Bronny James Jr. and Dalton Knecht along with forward Adou Thiero to the South Bay Lakers,” SI’s Ryan Ward posted.
Los Angeles is sending their young players back to the G-League to get more reps rather than sit against the Timberwolves. The Lakers are aiming for a big win on Tuesday night.
For Knecht, James, and Thiero, this is another proving point to show the organization they have what it takes. When healthy, the Lakers’ rotation is deep, so it makes sense for the trio to be sent down once again.
