Lakers linked to trade involving frequently demoted $7.9 million guard

The Los Angeles Lakers have lived up to the billing so far this offseason, as they landed their franchise center in Walker Kessler, signed three valuable role players (Collin Sexton, Quentin Grimes, and Sandro Mamukelashvili), and moved on from DeAndre Ayton after a disappointing season with the franchise.

Interestingly, their next move could be a trade involving their frequently demoted second-year guard.

“There isn't much left to do for now, other than the possible Hachimura move. Once LeBron (James) makes his decision on his next team, there could be a subsequent move made with Bronny (James),” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin stated Friday.

For clarity, McMenamin is referring to LeBron’s June 30 decision to leave the Lakers and search for greener pastures elsewhere. In a sense, the James clan is a package deal. Although LeBron isn’t under contract with a franchise and wouldn’t be included in a trade with his son, he has the power necessary to ensure his son joins him at his new NBA home if he pleases.

How? During contract negotiations, James can give franchises a clear ultimatum: find a way to acquire Bronny, or a potential signing is off the table.

Considering that Bronny was demoted to the G-League on several occasions this past season and is still on the outside looking in with the Luka Doncic-led Lakers, it’s reasonable to assume the franchise won’t have an issue moving on from him if need be.
