Lakers legend Byron Scott expresses disappointment about Deandre Ayton's recent comments

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a rocky season, which is intriguing due to the talent on the roster. Having Luka Doncic and LeBron James on the same squad should lead to solid expectations.

These two superstars are most effective when they have a good big man playing alongside them. Unfortunately, they have Deandre Ayton, who has struggled mightily. However, his mindset continues to be questioned due to his lack of effort.

Byron Scott is disappointed with Deandre Ayton's comments

Before the Lakers' game on Thursday against the Phoenix Suns, Ayton was in the headlines. He was caught saying that he was turning into Clint Capela, who is mostly known for being a pick-and-roll specialist.

Ayton's style mostly operates in the mid-range, so being turned into a pick-and-roll big has been a long-standing problem. That happened when he was with the Suns and the Portland Trail Blazers.

In response to those comments, Ayton had another disappointing night against the Suns on Friday. In 23 minutes, he only posted two points and four rebounds. That is exactly the type of performance the Lakers do not want.

This led to Lakers legend and former head coach Byron Scott to weigh in. He showed his disappointment with Ayton's performances.

"I think a lot of guys in this league today do not want to accept their role to make the team better. It is what it is. I don't see him being a much better Clint Capela, to be honest with you," Scott said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

"I think he would serve the Lakers if he were that guy. A guy who can really run to the rim, catch lobs, and be a hell of a screen setter. I think he took it as an insult, but to have that kind of performance after saying that? Doesn't serve you well."

Scott makes great points because the Lakers would find him quite useful if he is playing in a more optimal role. To most fans, they see Ayton playing a role that he wants rather than sticking to what works.

That has led to some disappointing nights for Ayton and the Lakers. Considering he is a former #1 overall pick, he needs to prove that he is a high-potential player. Unfortunately, even Jaxson Hayes has been more impressive due to his motor.
