Whether it was his physical play on the court or his usual antics on the bench, Dillon Brooks made sure to be at the centre of social media attention. He backed it up by being the highest scorer of the night, pouring in 25 points while shooting an efficient 66.7% from the field, outperforming LeBron James in the Phoenix Suns' 132-108 win over the LA Lakers.

Brooks also received high praise from Lakers legend James Worthy. After the game, Worthy compared a key part of Brooks’ offensive game to Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

“He really knows how to play the Kobe and the Michael Jordan bump game to get a shot. He's turned into a little beast,” Worthy said.

Brooks knocked down one mid-range jumper, a skill that Bryant and Jordan used to dominate. He also knocked down three shots from beyond the arc, while the rest of his field goals came at the rim.

Devin Booker reacts to Dillon Brooks’ “all points” stat line

Dillon Brooks averaged 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in December, but against the Lakers, his role looked very different. His focus was only on scoring.

Seems like Jordan Ott and the rest of the Suns coaching staff gave him the green light to focus on scoring. Making full use of this opportunity, he finished the night with an efficient 25 points, a performance that earned high praise from teammate Devin Booker.

“I think he's gotten better,” Booker said. “You know, I think he's put the work in. He wasn't just good. You know, he would score. It wouldn't be that efficient. But, you know, now you can see the work, and the work has brought the confidence with it.”

Booker went on to say he loved Brooks’ stat line from Tuesday night, adding that it reminded him of prime J.R. Smith.

“That's what we want him to do out there,” Booker said. “Maybe a few more rebounds, but we're not expecting him to pass.”

The 25-point performance marked Dillon Brooks’ highest scoring night since he dropped 27 points against the Lakers earlier this month during the Suns’ 125-108 win. The outing also increased his career averages against the Purple & Gold to 13.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game across 24 matchups.
