Lakers' LeBron James wisely avoids question regarding big man void: 'No comment'

Playing without a reliable center ultimately doomed the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.

Rudy Gobert feasted in the low post from start to finish, taking advantage of JJ Redick’s refusal to put Jaxson Hayes on the hardwood.

The three-time All-Star frontcourt stud recorded 27 points on 80% field shooting, 24 rebounds, and two blocks in 39 minutes. As a result, the Minnesota Timberwolves escaped with a series-clinching 103-96 road victory.

During LeBron James’ postgame press conference, the four-time NBA champion was asked to describe his experience being a part of a lineup with zero big men, and he wisely avoided the tricky question.

"No comment," James said. "I never say that, but my guy (Anthony Davis) said what he needed and he was gone the following week. I got no comment. I put that uniform on every night, give everything I have and that's all that matters."

For clarity, James referenced Davis' plea for help in the paint two weeks before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

"I think we need another big," Davis told ESPN's Shams Charania on Jan. 23. "I feel like I've always been at my best when I've been the four, having a big out there."

"We know it worked when we won a championship with JaVale (McGee) and Dwight (Howard) at the five, and I'm at the four. We feel like we are right there, you know, as far as the team and everything like that, "(James) and I are like very, very motivated to win another championship."

Davis was later traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a groundbreaking Feb. 2 trade that no one saw coming.

Although James made the right decision to pass on the reporter’s question, it’s no secret that the Lakers must add another big man in free agency to take a step forward in the Western Conference.

Clint Capela, Walker Kessler, Robert Williams III, and Myles Turner are realistic targets that could land on Los Angeles' radar in the offseason.

Expect the franchise to appease James and Luka Doncic by filling a massive void this summer.
