Lakers’ LeBron James retiring is on the table again

4 hours ago 1

This isn't the first time LeBron James has thought about retiring.

In fact, it's not the second time, either.

ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported in his latest article that James has considered retirement each offseason since 2023. So that marks three years in a row that James has thought about retiring.

McMenamin goes on to say that James won't be retiring now, though, and that this might not even be his last season.

LeBron is expected to opt in to his $52.6 million player option and be under that one-year deal with the Lakers for 2025-26.

At 40 years old, James remains one of the NBA's best players, and he's now looking at a full season with superstar teammate Luka Doncic (and another campaign alongside his son, Bronny).

The Lakers still need to solve their center problem, but they've got a solid team otherwise and likely feel they can contend as long as they still have LeBron and Luka. Austin Reaves isn't a bad third option, either.

James will likely keep considering retirement going forward, but there's no doubting that he can keep getting the job done for as long as he wants to keep playing basketball, either.
