The Los Angeles Lakers are looking forward to this summer with excitement, especially regarding potential roster moves. One key focus is Austin Reaves, who will be a free agent this offseason, though there is mutual interest in bringing him back.
“I try not to think about it. Honestly. I've said it a million times. I want to be in L.A. I love it," Reaves told ESPN. "Even though the other extension was turned down, that doesn't mean that I'm trying to go get a f---ing gigantic number that don't make sense. I want to be here, I want to win. I want to do everything that can help this organization be better. So I don't try to think about those things."
The Lakers also have a bright future with Luka Doncic, whose only request is to win now.
“Dončić being just 26 gives the Lakers a far longer timeline to build a championship-contending team, but that doesn't mean they can slow down and take their time. Dončić told Lakers president Rob Pelinka and coach JJ Redick in May that he's not interested in taking the slow approach in building a contender,” CBS Sports’ Jasmyn Wimbish wrote.
Add LeBron James to the mix, and expectations for the Big Three are sky-high. However, Lakers insider Jovan Buha recently highlighted a concerning stat when the trio plays together.
“The Lakers are now 8-4 in their 12 games with the Big 3. Their four losses are to the four best teams they've played record-wise: Spurs, Rockets, Celtics and Suns. They've lost all of those games by double digits. That's concerning,” Buha posted.
While 12 games is a small sample size, expectations for the Big Three are much higher. Dominating weaker teams is one thing, but failing to notch a single significant win against the league’s best with all three stars on the floor is troubling.
The Lakers have an elite Big Three, but they haven’t been able to fully click when it matters most. The trio will need to figure this out as the playoffs approach in a few months.
