The Los Angeles Lakers made a significant move before the NBA Finals.
The team hired Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under president and GM Rob Pelinka, according to ESPN. What makes this addition interesting is Ramadas' background. He spent time in the New Orleans Pelicans front office, but is also a rocket scientist. No jokes at all.
After graduating from the University of Southern California, Ramadas spent more than a decade with the Aerospace Corporation before going to NOLA. He was the Pelicans' vice president of strategy and operations and will carry on similar responsibilities for the Lakers.
"More on the strategy side," Pelinka said via ESPN. "Cap, analytics and data."
Another source told ESPN, Ramadas implemented AI and coded models to aid the front office. It's clear the Lakers might be tapping into future technologies with the move.

Pelinka and Los Angeles hit a critical offseason with many decisions on the docket. The future of LeBron James is unsettled, leading many to believe the end of his career is close, or he'll spend the remainder of his days chasing a title elsewhere. Despite two straight 50-win seasons, this could be the time to build around Luka Doncic as the future of the franchise.
