Anthony Davis deserves to play alongside a reliable center, but the Los Angeles Lakers haven’t been able to figure that out for AD.
When L.A. won the title in 2020 they had a combo of Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee playing alongside Davis, which was a better situation at center than they’ve had ever since.
It seems like all we ever hear about AD is that he’s more comfortable playing the four, but for some reason, the most powerful franchise in basketball hasn’t been able to retain a quality center so that Davis can play the four.
It’s time for the Lakers to put an end to that nonsense if they want to seriously contend.
Jonas Valančiūnas is a name that keeps coming up in connection to Los Angeles, most recently in a piece by Hoops Habit’s Treyvon Hastings.
“Valanciunas, currently on a three-year, $30.3 million contract, could be deemed expendable by a rebuilding team seeking young players and draft picks,” Hastings said.
“With a flexible contract, Los Angeles could find a middle ground for Valanciunas.”
“That middle ground could consist of a trade package featuring D'Angelo Russell, who's more likely to be traded than previously expected.”
Hastings also cited a report from NBA insider Jake Fischer that Russell is available on the trade market as “outgoing salary.”
Hastings also mentioned Brook Lopez of the Milwaukee Bucks as a Lakers target.
