The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors are two teams that could be in the market for a center.
Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes are set to hit free agency for the Lakers, and though they were both serviceable in 2025, Los Angeles can definitely find an upgrade at the position.
As for the Warriors, Kristaps Porzingis is also going to be a free agent, and though there is momentum towards Porzingis returning on a short-term deal, Golden State also wants him to take a pay cut. That could lead to the 2024 NBA champion testing the market for other offers.
If Los Angeles and Golden State want to revamp their center spot this offseason, there are a plethora of different targets, with Jarrett Allen possibly being one of them.
Lakers and Warriors connected to trade for Jarrett Allen
In an article detailing the top trade candidates for the 2026 offseason, Pro Football Network's Cooper Kleinberg included Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen, with the Lakers and Warriors as potential landing spots.
"If the Cavaliers believe Evan Mobley is capable of being their full-time center, a Jarrett Allen trade could be in the works this offseason as Cleveland shakes things up after a disappointing Eastern Conference Finals sweep by the New York Knicks," Kleinberg wrote.
Despite being completely outplayed by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, Cleveland reportedly plans to run it back with their core of stars, which includes Allen.
However, President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman needs to shake up this roster in some way, and it could come in the form of trading Allen, who still has multiple years left on his deal and isn't really needed, especially with Evan Mobley's ability to play center.
Los Angeles and Golden State could use a player like Allen. Though the former All-Star has seen his play dip in the playoffs in recent years, Allen is still a valuable contributor due to his rebounding and interior paint presence.
Allen would fit well with Luka Doncic with the Lakers, primarily due to his athleticism, which makes him a dynamic lob threat. Allen could also find a role with Golden State, though the spacing with Draymond Green at power forward would raise concerns.
It remains to be seen whether the Cavs consider moving Allen. The team explored the possibility of dealing the 6-foot-9 center at the February trade deadline, so it's definitely not out of the question that Cleveland could move him in the coming weeks.
