Never one to hide an opinion, Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times had this to say about the Lakers Austin Reaves situation.
After weeks of rumors surrounding Reaves’ trade market, Plaschke offered an opinion that certainly simplifies things for the Lakers.
“I love him like you love him.
But it’s time.
Austin Reaves is the Lakers’ breath of fresh air, a sharpshooting respite from all the drama and dirge, a stirring journey from undrafted to indefatigable. My favorite, everybody’s favorite.
But it’s time.
If the Lakers are going to get where they need to be, they’ll have to get there without Austin Reaves. If the Lakers truly value the acquisition of a big man, they’re going to have to get rid of the little fella.
Damn, I hate writing these next three words.
Trade Austin Reaves.”
Plaschke then goes on to argue that the Lakers must trade Reaves to finally reach their championship ceiling. The team has two star ball handlers in LeBron James and Luka Doncic, and Plaschke argues that the team could benefit from flipping Reaves for a star big man.
Any way you look at it, this offseason is massive for the Lakers, who will need to maximize James’ remaining years of prominence. Unfortunately, that might just require trading a fan favorite in search of another difference maker in the paint.
The Lakers were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 5 games in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
