LA Kings president Luc Robitaille shared an update on Adrian Kempe’s contract talks. Kempe is in the last season of his four-year, $22 million contract, earning $5.5 million per year on average. He has been eligible to sign an extension since July 1, but if he is not signed, he will become a UFA in 2026.

The Kings want to secure the 29-year-old forward before he reaches the open market. During an interview on Sportsnet 590 The FAN, Robitaille said the team views Kempe as a very important player.

"[Kempe] He's a very, very special player, special to our team, and it's something that Ken's been working on," Robitaille said. "I mean, I can, I'll even give you a scoop. I made sure I asked, Ken [Holland]. "But Ken and J.P. Barry [Adrian Kempe's agent] have been meeting while in Toronto. So, you know, and the talks are continuing, and we're trying to figure it out, I think, on both sides."

Robitaille said both sides understand the urgency and want to keep discussions moving. Kempe is part of their lineup and long-term plan.

"So we know it's important," Robitaille said. "It's important for our franchise, and he's a great player, you know, he's an impact player, and he plays every situation, so we totally understand the urgency."

Kempe has 19 points in 18 games this season. He has scored six goals and has 13 assists while playing in all situations. Kempe brings speed, scoring, and consistent pressure on the puck. He has 420 points in 648 career games since being drafted in 2014. His growth has made him one of the Kings’ most reliable offensive leaders.

LA Kings are benefiting from offensive and defensive balance

The LA Kings are 9-5-4 and sit second in the Pacific Division. Their success has come from strong defense and balanced scoring. They have earned key wins against Toronto, Montreal, Pittsburgh, and Winnipeg.

The offense sits near league average but remains steady thanks to depth throughout the lineup. With players like Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiala, and Quinton Byfield contributing, the Kings look stable this season.

Robitaille’s update signals that the LA Kings are looking to keep their offensive core in place. As the extension talks are active, both sides appear motivated to reach a long-term deal. The Kings know how important Kempe is to their core. The focus now is on finding contract terms that work for both sides.
