Kyrie Irving set to address Kevin Durant's comments on commitment during Nets tenure

The Brooklyn Nets appeared destined to win their first NBA title after acquiring superstars Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden. From an individual talent standpoint, it marked one of the best trios that the league has ever seen.

Things did not work out that way, however, as the group shared the court for just 16 games. They did show promise when they were all available, however, as the Nets were 8-2 in ten regular season matchups and 5-1 in six postseason outings with the trio playing.

Durant recently addressed their run together on the "Mind the Game" podcast with former head coach Steve Nash and LeBron James. He noted that there were plenty of distractions surrounding the organization at the time.

"I felt like we had great intentions though," Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant stated. "I felt like we cared enough. I felt like every day we were trying to push towards winning the championship. It was a great vibe there. It was some of the best times. That first year, that's why I signed that deal. That first year, man, most fun ball I had. Some of the most fun ball I had playing my whole life. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed Brooklyn a lot. I loved playing for Brooklyn, but it's just so much happened around the guys that were committed to the situation. I felt like we were committed but everybody else wasn't. It was just weird."

While his comments were over a week ago, Irving shared that he now plans to address the claims.

"lol I am gonna address this on my stream soon"

Durant chimed in with a tweet of his own, noting that he will be tuned in.

"Lemme set this noti."

While the 2013-14 MVP did not point fingers at anyone, it has always been clear that he wanted the group to remain together and figure things out. Their lone postseason run as a trio was overshadowed by injuries as Irving and Harden both missed three games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals as the Nets lost to the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks in seven games.

Despite their absence, the 15-time All-Star nearly won them the series with what appeared to be a buzzer-beating three-pointer, however, it was ruled a two-pointer as his toe was on the line. Brooklyn wound up dropping the game in overtime. The following year, Irving opted not to take the COVID-19 vaccine, which led to Harden requesting a trade and ultimately being moved to the Philadelphia 76ers.
