Cooper Flagg has had a magnificent start to his NBA career as the number one overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks. As a fellow top pick, Kyrie Irving has been a valuable example for Flagg over the past year.
Irving has also played alongside some iconic players during his career, including Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James and Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant. Despite that, it seems that Irving is being careful not to put too much pressure on his young teammate.
Kyrie Irving celebrates Cooper Flagg's strengths amid LeBron James comparisons
Since 2011, Irving has been a standout player in the NBA. He knows what pressure does for players, and while Flagg is one of the most talented youngsters, pressure can still be dangerous.
Flagg has been a highly touted prospect since his days in high school, which is similar to other top-tier prospects like James and Durant. Naturally, Flagg has been compared to them because of his budding star power.

As Flagg's veteran, it seems that Irving wants people to relax when it comes to comparing a second-year player like Flagg to some of the icons of modern-day basketball.
"I'll give my respect to KD and Bron; they are on different trajectories in their careers. I think Coop falls in line when it comes to having that competitive nature at a very young age. To be able to lead a team, to be able to be part of a great team, to be accomplished... I love that he cares, using his voice as he's grown into year two," Irving said after the Mavericks' preseason game.
Irving admits that he had a hard time earlier in his career, so he will be doing his best to make Flagg's life easier. It will be challenging, but it seems that Irving's veteran status will be an important part of Flagg's career.
