Kuldeep Yadav didn’t take too long to make his presence felt in the first Test between India and South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, November 14. The left-arm spinner dismissed Proteas captain Temba Bavuma in his second over. Bavuma walked back for just three runs off 11 deliveries as the tourists lost their third wicket for 71.
The dismissal came in the 16th over of South Africa’s first innings. The left-arm wrist-spinner bowled a tossed-up delivery that spun back into the right-hander. Bavuma got forward in his defence, and the ball took an inside edge and lobbed into the hands of Dhruv Jurel at backward short-leg. The idea of placing a fielder near the leg slip worked in India’s favor.

Temba Bavuma was coming on the back of a half-century (59) for South Africa A in the second practice Test, but failed to make the most of his form.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav continued his stellar form after bagging 12 wickets, including a fifer, in the two-match Test series against the West Indies one month ago.
Temba Bavuma and company crumble after a solid start on Day 1
Temba Bavuma-led South Africa failed to make it count despite a promising start in the first Test against South Africa on Day 1. Jasprit Bumrah removed the openers as Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram walked back for 23 (22) and 31 (48), respectively.
At the time of writing, the Proteas were 84/3 after 19 overs, with Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi at the crease.
Notably, South Africa A chased down 417 against India in the second practice match in Bengaluru. They will be searching for their first series win in India since the 1999/2000 tour. The World Test Champions are coming on the back of a 1-1 draw in Pakistan.
On the other hand, India thrashed the West Indies 2-0 in their last Test series at home in October. The Shubman Gill-led side also drew a five-match series 2-2 in England.
In the match, India made two changes as Rishabh Pant made his comeback while Washington Sundar was slotted at No. 3. Notably, the hosts are playing with wicketkeepers – Pant and Dhurv Jurel. Meanwhile, South Africa copped a blow as Kagiso Rabada was ruled out due to an injury. Corbin Bosch has replaced him in the playing XI.
