Why Kristen Stewart Feels “Unstoppable” Working With Wife Dylan Meyer

Kristen Stewart is pulling back the curtain on one of the biggest decisions of her life.

The Chronology of Water director detailed her choice to come out during her Saturday Night Live monologue while hosting the show in Feb. 2017, where she directly told President Donald Trump that she's "so gay, dude."

"It was less about sharing the details of my relationship," Kristen explained in a teaser for her Feb. 2 interview on ABC News Live Prime with Linsey Davis, per People, "and more so acknowledging that there are people that don't get full access to being alive because they're hiding."

The 35-year-old continued, "I've experienced perspectives, I've had conversations with people I've known, loved and trusted and still do, who thought, 'Your career would go better if you didn't go outside holding your girlfriend's hand.' And I was like, 'So you want me to live a partial life? And you want me to uphold, perpetuate and sustain a system that excludes people?' And I just can't do that."

Kristen's comments come as she enjoys her first year of marriage with wife Dylan Meyer, who she also worked with on her upcoming directorial debut Chronology of Water.

“We have very, very different, very cohesive energies,” she said of her wife, who is credited as a producer on the film, in a December interview with E! News’ Will Marfuggi. “This might sound totally arrogant, but I think that we’re kind of unstoppable. She’s meditative and she’s very, very macro. I am so micro. It just works.”

While Kristen didn't feel as though she had previously been hiding who she was, she felt as though addressing it head-on would ultimately help other people.

"None of my relationships have felt guarded because I didn't want people to know me. I want people to know me," she explained. "I felt like they did, so I didn't really need to fill in the blanks. But at that point it felt like a statement that just might unlock other people's doors."

Years in the Making

While they were first linked publicly around August 2019, Kristen Stewart revealed to Howard Stern the following November that she had actually met Dylan Meyer six years earlier on a movie. However, their paths did not cross again until they reunited at a friend's birthday party. As she recalled to Stern, "I was like, 'Where have you been and how have I not known you?'"

Popping the Question

"We're marrying. We're totally going to do it," Stewart confirmed to Stern in November 2021. "I kind of asked her. I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out my, what I wanted. And you know, she nailed it. It was really cute. She did very well. And we're marrying. It's happening."

Wedding Bells

"I want it to be pretty chill," Stewart told Stern of their future nuptials. "I don't want anyone walking anyone down any aisles. We're just going to like stand and do vows and f--king party after. It's kind of just a great excuse to get together and say 'I love you' in front of all your friends."
