The Pittsburgh Pirates, ever since calling up Konnor Griffin earlier this year, have seen a lot of different historical benchmarks get beaten by their young rookie.
Now 20 years old, Griffin is playing better and continuing to make Major League Baseball and Pirates history.
As Sarah Langs shared on Twitter/x, the latest bit of history that Griffin is making comes after being named the leadoff hitter for Tuesday's matchup. This time, Griffin is making history not seen in 74 years.
Konnor Griffin makes history not seen in 74 years
"Konnor Griffin is 20 years and 32 days old. He's the... youngest leadoff hitter in MLB since 4/12/24 Jackson Chourio (20y 32d)... youngest for Pirates since 9/21/52 Bobby Del Greco (19y 167d)," Langs shared.
Griffin is now the youngest Pirates hitter to lead off a game since 74 years ago, when Bobby Del Grego, then 19 years and 167 days old, led off for the Pirates on September 21st.
While this isn't some impressive on-field feat, it's still an impressive notch on his resume. Griffin is the youngest Pirates leadoff hitter in 74 years.

And in MLB, it's a fun coincidence that the next-youngest player to lead off a game was Jackson Chourio, who just so happened to be the exact same age as Griffin, both being 20 years and 32 days old.
Griffin is leading off for the Pirates on Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs and opener Jordan Wicks.
This is the highest Griffin has ever been in the lineup for Pittsburgh, and might be the spot he holds on to if he impresses there going forward.
