Neither of the 2026 NBA Finals teams looked like they threw their best punch in Game 1. But on a night where most shots weren't falling for either side, it was the New York Knicks who stole a road matchup, putting them in a excellent spot heading into Friday night.

Even with Jalen Brunson fighting through injury concerns and having an inefficient shooting performance, the gutsy nature of the 2025-26 Knicks showed on Wednesday night — thanks to Brunson's standout fourth quarter and Karl-Anthony Towns' all-around night, the Spurs are staring at a potential 2-0 series deficit as they head to Madison Square Garden if they can't rally in Friday's Game 2.

All eyes will be on Wembanyama as he comes off a Finals debut that was good, but not good enough, scoring 26 points but with 6-of-21 shooting and six turnovers. The Knicks clearly found some ways to rattle the 7-4 center, primarily through Towns. Whether that continues into Game 2 should be clear early, with Wembanyama seeking to set a new tone for the series.

With the Knicks riding a historic 12-game playoff win streak into Friday night, they're in the driver's seat early in these Finals. But the Spurs have repeatedly proven they can respond to adversity on the playoff stage. Who will take Game 2?
