Knicks trade pitch moves Karl-Anthony Towns for two elite defenders

The New York Knicks have some defensive issues, but for the most part, they weren’t nearly as bad as some worried about when they landed Karl-Anthony Towns last offseason.

Ultimately, Towns will never be a great defender unless something drastic changes. When a player can give a team 30-plus points on any given night and shoot the 3-point shot as well as he does from the center position, it's something everyone can live with.

Despite that, Sports Illustrated believes there's a scenario where the Knicks could look to trade him. They proposed a trade idea that would move on from Towns for two-time NBA champion Jrue Holiday and another elite defender, Robert Williams.

Hawks Receive: Duop Reath

Knicks Receive: Holiday, Williams, and a 2028 first-round pick (from Portland, via Orlando)

Blazers Receive: Towns and Pacome Dadiet

“They try and upgrade their defense in a big way. Holiday is still an elite defender and if Williams can be healthy (a big if), this could be one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. The Knicks change their playing style while still having an elite offensive engine in Jalen Brunson. An extra first round pick is not a bad asset either,” they wrote.

Holiday and Williams are very different players from Towns, primarily due to their differing average offensive skill sets.

Given Williams' injury history and Holiday getting older, it's likely better to keep a center who is a guaranteed 20 and 10 every night.
