The New York Knicks could be in a position to make a blockbuster move this offseason. Whether it’s for Giannis Antetokounmpo or another good player, if the nicks don’t win it all now, changes have to be made.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report believes that could come in the form of Zion Willamson. While the idea comes with obvious risks, it’s also a decent time to take a chance on Williamson.
The issue, in the proposed deal, New York would acquire Williamson while sending OG Anunoby to New Orleans. Anunoby is among the best wings in the NBA and has been on the court. However, Zion, when healthy, brings a completely different type of game, and one that could fit.
The biggest question, of course, is health. Williamson’s career has been derailed by injuries. Despite his talent, availability is a major factor with him.
“The Pelicans are going to have to take a hard look at their frontcourt this offseason. A Williamson-Derik Queen power forward-center combo has a net rating of minus-11.0 in 1,345 possessions together, ranking in the 12th percentile via Cleaning the Glass.
“New Orleans has made the playoffs just twice in Williamson's seven years, and the 25-year-old missed both series due to injury. It may be time to part ways and focus on developing Queen's game instead. Anunoby and Herb Jones would give the Pels two of the best defensive wings in the NBA,” he wrote.
I don’t hate the idea of the Knicks going after Williamson, but I don’t love the idea of giving up Anunoby to get the deal done.
