The New York Knicks have been among the most interesting teams this offseason, but they still need to make some roster moves.
After earning their first trip to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000, the Knicks surprisingly fired Tom Thibodeau. Eventually landing on Mike Brown as his replacement, the Knicks’ coaching search dominated headlines throughout this postseason, but making the right moves to give Brown a good roster is now the top priority.
If the season started today, the Knicks would already have a relatively complete team. With the entire starting five from last season returning alongside Mitchell Robinson, the team also made some key additions, such as Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele.
However, they might still need to make one more big move. As suggested by Knicks on SI’s Jeremy Brener, New York could still use a veteran point guard to back up Jalen Brunson next season.
Brener noted that the team might be interested in seeing how Tyler Kolek can hold up at that spot in his second season, but it might not be wise for the Knicks to test that out. Considering the team fired Thibodeau because it believes the championship window is wide open, allowing an unproven player to man such an important spot seems unlikely.
While Chris Paul seems set on playing closer to home, other options to fill that spot could include Russell Westbrook or Malcolm Brogdon, who are still searching for their next teams. New York has plenty of options to work with, but making the right one could be the difference in their title chase.
