Every now and again, a team has to declare itself. This isn’t done so much for the team itself, mind you, not often — there are no greater masters at self-confidence and assurance anywhere in the world than inside a professional sports locker room.
How often do we hear words similar to the ones Josh Hart declared not so long ago: “I keep hearing how we’re not very good. But I don’t hear that from the guys in here”?
We hear it a lot, actually. Because the guys who play the games wouldn’t be where they are if they didn’t believe that they are destined for great things. Sometimes it’s a little delusional, sure: Take it to the bank that most of the Nets players who zapped the lowly Wizards on Saturday believe that could well be the start of a seven-game winning streak, against all reason and logic.
And sometimes it’s legit.
