The New York Knicks have begun training camp just like everyone else around the league. There are two roster spots that need to be filled, but for cap reasons, they might only be taking on one more player.

New York has built a training camp with a lot of competition, as several players are fighting for at least one roster spot. The week before training camp, they signed a good chunk of players.

“Earlier this week, the Knicks agreed to Exhibit 9 deals with five players: Ochai Agbaji, Bruce Brown, John Konchar, Drew Eubanks, and James Wiseman. The Knicks only have two roster spots open and are approaching the second apron, so there's more at stake than just performance and fit during the preseason for this group," SI's Max Wildstein wrote.

Veteran John Konchar was a great pickup, as he was essentially salary dumped by the Minnesota Timberwolves. After trading for him, Minnesota waived him almost immediately.

“The Timberwolves announce that they have just waived John Konchar," NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.

The Knicks getting Konchar and Bruce Brown set up an interesting roster battle between the veteran guards. There obviously can only be one winner. Due to a personal matter, Konchar was unfortunately waived on Wednesday.

“John Konchar had been away from the Knicks this week tending to a personal matter, per SNY sources. The Knicks and Konchar have since decided to part ways for now, allowing him additional time away from the team,” SNY’s Ian Begley posted.

It is not ruled out that Konchar can come back depending on the extent of his absence. If he isn’t able to come back for the Knicks, there are other teams that will be interested in him.

Konchar was on an $18 million contract before being waived by New York. The guard is a hound defensively and is a reliable shooter from beyond the arc. Konchar is as consistent of a veteran as they come, so it will be something to watch where he ends up next.
