Knicks may cut ties with Mitchell Robinson in favor of Jazz's $71 million star guard

The New York Knicks’ roster is far from complete this season.

Adding a thriving Utah Jazz guard who is hoping to improve his current situation would benefit the franchise.

“Collin Sexton could be a game-changer for the New York Knicks, especially if he is willing to come off the bench,” Fadeaway World’s Cholo Martin Magsino wrote Monday.

“He could be one of the league’s best sixth men after this mock trade. Sexton is averaging 16.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists on 48.9% from the field and 43.8% from three.”

“That kind of scoring punch is what the Knicks need outside of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. If they could pull this off, it’s a fantastic trade, considering the Jazz have an impending fire sale.”

“A package of Mitchell Robinson, Cameron Payne, Tyler Kolek, and a couple of draft picks could be enough since Utah wants to rebuild again.”

The Jazz have only won seven of their first 28 games, but Sexton’s noteworthy play on the hardwood should be commended.

The energetic score-first guard, who plays with high intensity regularly, averages 16.9 points on 48.9% field goal shooting and 43.8% long-range shooting.

The Alabama product’s ability to put instant pressure on the rim and compete defensively might appeal to New York.

However, Sexton, a starter for the Jazz, would have to embrace a reserve role to succeed on the Towns and Brunson-led Knicks.

If the former lottery pick is willing to make a notable sacrifice this season, and the Knicks are prepared to move on from Robinson, Sexton may receive a call from New York before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
