The New York Knicks could look to get creative during the offseason. With a few movable pieces, the Knicks will have a few areas of need, depending on their moves. There have been rumors suggesting that the team could cut ties with many players on the roster, including Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson.
If the Knicks decide to go that route, they'll need to add a center, as there's already an argument to be made that they need another one.
According to James L. Edwards of The Athletic, one of the centers they could show interest in is Al Horford of the Boston Celtics. Horford, 39 years old, is coming off a season where he averaged 9.0 points and shot 36.3% from 3-point range on 5.2 attempts per game.
With Jalen Brunson being able to get him open looks, he'd be an ideal fit in the Knicks' rotation.
“A couple of other names to consider with the taxpayer midlevel exception are Spencer Dinwiddie, Trey Lyles and Al Horford. As for minimum players, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Knicks brought back Delon Wright and/or Landry Shamet,” Edwards wrote.

Horford might not be what he once was, but he's still proved to be a valuable professional for the Celtics a season ago, and many believe he's an option for contending teams around the league.
If the Knicks want to be the team they're looking to be, having players like the 18-year professional on the roster is exactly what needs to happen.
Unlike someone like P.J. Tucker, who wasn't ever going to appear in games for the Knicks, Horford would be a veteran who could still get minutes.
