Klay Thompson's real reason to sign with Heat over Lakers just became clear with latest development

The Miami Heat have had an incredible summer for their future, especially with all of the moves they have made. First, it was landing one of the biggest names on the trade market in former Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Then, the Heat were able to add to their roster from there. They also ended up signing four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson to a deal.

“The Heat on Sunday could celebrate not only the addition of five-time All-Star guard Klay Thompson, but also the fact that the organization emerged from the transaction with more flexibility than some might have expected. Because Thompson agreed to a first year salary of $5.6 million, that left the Heat with the ability to fill both the 14th and 15th roster spots," Miami Herald's Barry Jackson wrote.

Miami won the battle for Thompson over the Los Angeles Lakers, which is the team he grew up watching his dad play for.

“My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home. The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer," The Athletic's Christian Clark wrote.

After a recent report, it is becoming very clear why the Lakers never really had a chance. Thompson is a front-runner to start for the Heat.

“The leading candidate for the role is future Hall of Famer Klay Thompson…outside shooting is needed throughout the rest of the lineup to help create space for Adebayo and Antetokounmpo inside the three-point line. Thompson is one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history, this is the skill set that the Heat needs alongside Adebayo and Antetokounmpo,” Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang wrote.

In all honesty, there was no shot of Thompson starting over Austin Reaves in Los Angeles. It seems like Miami is going to be moving Tim Hardaway Jr. to the bench, which would give the NBA champion a starting spot.

Thompson seemed to favor the Heat throughout the entire process, and it was thought to be because of the roster construction. However, after hearing that he is likely to be the starter, Miami has clearly been communicating this to him throughout the process.
