Kings trade rumor should be of interest to Warriors, Lakers

The Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers are facing the same problem heading into the offseason: their frontcourts are far from stable.

Considering Kristaps Porzingis is one of the most injury-prone big men in the league (which he further proved this year by only appearing in 32 contests with the Warriors and Atlanta Hawks), re-signing him wouldn’t be the safest option for the franchise this summer.

Regarding the Lakers, the 17-time NBA champions didn’t get the production they wanted from Deandre Ayton this year, and Jaxson Hayes isn’t a starting-caliber NBA center. The good news for both franchises is that Sacramento Kings’ standout forward Domantas Sabonis could be available this season, according to the Stein Line’s Jake Fischer.

“As for Sabonis, the Kings' former All-Star center is another name, behind (Giannis) Antetokounmpo and Memphis' Ja Morant, that league executives are projecting to be made available once again as part of this summer's trade landscape,” Fischer wrote Saturday.

“Sacramento is known to be looking to shed some significant salary if it can this offseason and seems likely to field more interest in Sabonis than other veterans.”

Sabonis didn’t have the 2025-26 season he likely hoped for. The Gonzaga product was limited to 19 contests due to a torn meniscus, making it nearly impossible for him to develop a rhythm in Year 11.

Sabonis’ track record makes it easy to envision contenders expressing interest in him this summer, though, as he’s averaged a double-double for eight straight seasons, has a knack for finishing through contact in the open floor, and recently turned the corner as a perimeter shooter (he shot 37.3% from beyond the arc in 2022-23, 37.9% in 2023-24, and 41.7% in 2024-25).

If the Warriors and Lakers are looking for a high-profile big man who could give them their desired comfort, Sabonis could certainly be that guy.
