The Sacramento Kings made headlines on Wednesday by acquiring 9-time All-Star and 2017 NBA MVP Russell Westbrook to round out their crowded guard room, but their latest decision means so much more for their long-term future.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Kings handed a hefty contract extension to their former No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and career 37.2% three-point shooting forward Wednesday night.

"Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has agreed to a five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension with the franchise, Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney of Priority Sports tell ESPN," Charania shared via X.

"Massive new deal for the Kings to lock in their 2022 No. 4 overall pick through 2030-31."

Throughout his first three NBA seasons with the franchise, Murray has contributed 13.3 points and 5.6 rebounds while remaining a dependable 3-and-D combo-forward.

Murray's rookie campaign with the Kings saw the franchise break it's 17-year playoff drought in the 2023 postseason, when the team finished the 2022-23 season with a 48-34 record to notch the Western Conference's No. 3 seed.

The then-22-year-old would go on to average 9.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.6 steals while knocking down 37.5% of his looks from three-point range in his first and only playoff series in the first round of the 2023 playoffs against the Golden State Warriors.

Heading into 2025-26, expectations for Murray will certainly be heightened due to his sizable price tag and Sacramento's clear commitment to his development through 2031.
