Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell is feeling the burden of her own instant success.
Last season, Caldwell didn’t have the pressure of expectations. She was considered an outside-the-box hire for Tennessee, who had only hired coaches with deep ties to the program since the late Pat Summitt stepped down in 2012.
Caldwell got the Tennessee job after reinvigorating Marshall in one season, bringing that Herd magic to Tennessee. She picked up statement wins against UConn, Iowa and Alabama during the season. The Volunteers then upset Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament en route to the Sweet 16.
But the hardest part of being a coach is doing it again. No season is alike. The recipe for success looks different each year.
