Kevin Federline caught Britney Spears on the phone with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake the night before they got married in 2004.
The former backup dancer said he and the pop star stayed at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., on the eve of their nuptials and he walked in during the phone call.
“I was like, ‘What’s wrong?’ I thought she was talking to her mom on the phone or maybe she was, like, having doubts, and she told me she was on the phone with Justin,” Federline said in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” Tuesday.
“Immediately … I was like, ‘We don’t have to do this,'” he said he told Spears. “Like, I didn’t care if we got married or not.”
According to Federline, Spears told him that she just wanted to “make sure everything was done” between her and Timberlake, and that she wanted to say her final piece.
“I’m like, damn, you know, on the night before our wedding this is what you decide to do?” Federline said of his reaction at the time, agreeing with the interviewer who called the interaction a “hell of a red flag.”
“I was super young,” Federline added. “I was madly in love at that moment.”

The father of six said he wasn’t sure if Spears was still in love with Timberlake, but he was certain she was “not over it.”
Federline, 47, is currently promoting his memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” which is out on Oct. 21. He and Spears have not spoken for years since they divorced in 2007, but they share two children together: Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
He told the New York Times he feared Spears’ was “racing toward” a tragic end and “it’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK.”
Federline also claimed Spears once watched her sons sleeping with a knife in her hand.
“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” a rep for Spears told Page Six in a statement Tuesday. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism.”
“She detailed her journey in her memoir,” the statement continued, referring to Spears’ 2023 book, “The Woman in Me.”
Spears, 43, and Timberlake, 44, met as children on “The Mickey Mouse Club” and started dating in 1999. They dated for two years before splitting in 2002.
The relationship was tumultuous.
In her memoir, Spears revealed how she had an abortion after becoming pregnant by Timberlake. She also admitted to cheating on him with choreographer Wade Robson.
Page Six exclusively reported that Timberlake eventually dumped Spears with a two-word text reading, “It’s over!!!”
