Ketel Marte dealing with new trauma as home robbed while away for All-Star break

The Scottsdale home of Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte was burglarized on Tuesday, according to police.

Marte was in Atlanta to play in the All-Star Game at the time, and police said no one was at the second baseman’s home at the time of the incident.

Various personal items and pieces of jewelry were stolen, and there were signs of forced entry, the AP reported.

Police said they are still investigating what was called a “high-dollar residential burglary” at a house that is “reportedly” owned by Marte.

The 31-year-old Marte played in the All-Star game on Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with a two-run double in the first inning of an eventual National League win that was settled in a tie-breaking home run swing-off.

The burglary is the latest chapter in a difficult stretch for Marte.

The three-time All-Star broke down crying on the field in a June 24 game after a heckler at White Sox’s Rate Field made comments about his late mother, Elpidia Valdez, who died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in 2017.

The incident led to the heckler getting banned indefinitely from all MLB ballparks, after lobbying from both Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo and teammate Geraldo Perdomo.

Marte is enjoying a terrific season with Arizona, hitting .290 with 19 homers, 40 RBIs and a 165 OPS+, and he’s on pace to match his numbers from 2024, when he was also an All-Star and placed third in the NL MVP rankings.

The Diamondbacks are 47-50 at the break and 5 1⁄2 games back of the final NL wild card spot after losing eight of their last nine games.

Arizona returns to action Friday night to kick off a three-game set against the Cardinals at home, before the homestand continues with three games of interleague action against the Astros.
