Maybe he’s born with it. Maybe it’s… Mark Consuelos.
The Live with Kelly and Mark co-host brought up the viral “caveman skin” trend on Friday’s episode, leading Kelly Ripa to tease, “I believe you have that.”
Consuelos explained that there are people who go “overboard” with oils and products in their skincare routine, and that this “new fad emerging” seems to be a direct response to that.
“[It is] truly the antithesis of expensive facial care, [where] absolutely nothing is involved in achieving caveman skin. Not even water,” he read. “They don’t even wash their face.”
While Consuelos said he washes his face after taping Live in order to “scrub off the powder” they put on him for TV, he admitted that he “do[es]n’t really have a routine at night” when it comes to facial skin care.
Ripa agreed, “You have no routine. It’s fascinating to me. The longer my routine gets, the shorter your routine gets.”
She did note “a moment” when Consuelos attempted to incorporate moisturizer into his regimen “for five seconds,” though it didn’t stick.
Consuelos conceded, “I got bored.”
Ripa added, “He’s like, ‘Let me try some of your moisturizer.’ And he puts it on, and that was it. That was the extent of it. I think you did it, like, one night.”

However, Consuelos highlighted that he shaves, and is thus “exfoliating.”
“You’re taking off dead skin cells. I’m not shaving my forehead. That’s bad,” he quipped. “But I think a happy medium. I probably should put more sunblock on. I should do that.”
Ripa replied, “But you don’t.”
Consuelos echoed, “I don’t. And a little more moisturizer, but I’m not going to.”
