Kelly Oubre Jr not ruling out return to Sixers amid free agency buzz

1 hour ago 3

The Philadelphia 76ers are set to lose a few players in free agency by way of expiring contracts, with one of those players being Kelly Oubre Jr. Oubre's two-year deal worth $16.3 million ran out at the end of the season, which has the potential to bring what has been a productive three-season stay in the City of Brotherly Love to an end.

Across his 178 games with the Sixers, Oubre has managed to become a mainstay in Nick Nurse's system, and a productive one at that, averaging 14.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, shooting an efficient 45.7 percent from the field. This season, while not his best with Philadelphia, was a good one for Oubre, with a fiery finish to the campaign, averaging 15.8 points per game in the Sixers' Eastern Conference semi-finals loss to the eventual NBA Champion, New York Knicks.

But this finish wouldn't just serve as a series of good performances for the 11-year veteran but rather would be a glowing advertisement for what he can bring to a lineup in free agency, and according to a recent report, there are a lot of teams circling Oubre.

As reported by Yahoo Sports' Kelly Iko, the Sixers, along with the Indiana Pacers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers, are all among the teams looking to have discussions with Oubre in the coming weeks.

The interest from the Pacers was originally reported on previously, with the interest coming as the former Eastern Conference Champions are looking to add some key depth behind their returning star, Tyrese Haliburton.

Portland's interest comes after the Western Conference side traded away its star forward, Jerami Grant, to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Ja Morant, among other assets, with Oubre potentially filling the spot left by the former Sixer.

Interest from the Lakers comes after the Western Conference side is set to lose some key forwards, including Rui Hachimura, Maxi Kleber, and most of all, Lebron James, who has decided to hit free agency. The former Sixers' wing wouldn't be a one-for-one swap for James, but rather mimics the loss of talent in Hachimura, among the names previously mentioned.

But Iko's report means that a return to Philadelphia isn't to be ruled out for Oubre, which could be quite notable given the lack of depth in at the three for the Sixers entering the free agency market.
