Kelly Clarkson Returns to Social Media With Personal Message After Brandon Blackstock's Death
Kelly Clarkson is healing her family piece by piece.
The “Stronger” singer shared an update with fans following the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock—with whom she shared kids River, 11, and Remington, 9—in August.
“My kids, they're 9 and 11," she said during a Q&A on the Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube channel uploaded Jan. 10. "They’re that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they're still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles."
She continued, "There's been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit.”
And even though Kelly's bedroom has gotten crowded with her little ones, she wouldn't have it any other way.
"It's my two dogs, my two kids and me," she added. "It's a lot. It's been really special, though, because the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that's probably my favorite time of day."
Blackstock, who was married to Clarkson from 2013 to 2020, passed away Aug. 7 at age 48 after a private three-year battle with cancer. One day earlier, the Kelly Clarkson Show host announced she was putting her Las Vegas residency on hold to support her kids through their father’s illness.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”

Following the talent manager’s death, those closest to him shared how he made a mark on their lives, including his elder kids Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18, from his marriage to Melissa Ashworth.
“You were a father, a son, a brother, and most importantly my best friend,” Seth wrote on Instagram Aug. 8. “You’ll have to watch me grow up from a Birds Eye view now buts that’s ok with me. There’s no one else on this earth that I would want to be my dad because no one can be half the man you were to me.”
Meanwhile, Savannah shared that she and her dad bonded over their faith in the final stage of his life.
“He always loved the Lord, but 6 months ago he sought the Lord. He was hungry for the word and we did it together,” she wrote on Instagram Aug. 19. “He’s gifted me more than I could’ve asked for and deserved throughout my life, but 12 days ago he blessed me the most valuable gift I could’ve asked for. The gift of knowing where he is today, in Heaven with our Savior.”
