Keion White cashes in on big playoff incentive from Patriots despite being on 49ers

Despite seeing his own team eliminated from the playoffs, San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Keion White has 81,000 reasons to be happy on Monday.

That's because White cashed in on an $81,000 incentive, but it isn't coming from the 49ers. Instead, it's the New England Patriots who will be shelling out that money to White.

According to CBS Sports' Joel Corry, White is getting that large chunk of change for the Patriots advancing to the AFC Championship Game, something the team accomplished on Sunday with a win over the Houston Texans.

How it that possible after White was traded away in October?

Well, according to Corry, White only needed to be on the Patriots' roster for eight games to be eligible for the playoff incentive.

White only appeared in five games for the Patriots this season, but he was on the roster for eight contests in total before he was dealt at the end of October.

"49ers edge rusher Keion White will get $81,000 for the AFC Championship Game, just like Drake Maye & the rest of the Patriots," Corry wrote. "That's because of the 8 games he was with New England before his trade to San Francisco."

It remains to be seen if White has the same deal if the Patriots advance to the Super Bowl, but if he does, it's safe to say he'll be rooting extra hard for New England on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game versus the Denver Broncos.

White was acquired by San Francisco to help fill the void left by star edge rusher Joey Bosa, who was lost for the season due to a torn ACL.

White didn't have much success, tallying 1.5 sacks in the nine games he played, but he did record a sack in the playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The former Patriots defender is under contract through 2026, so he might stick around in San Francisco for another season.
