Keegan Bradley seeing another side of golf thanks to Ryder Cup captaincy: ‘Much better way’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As is tradition at the PGA Championship, the two current Ryder Cup captains are in the field this week at Quail Hollow — Keegan Bradley from the U.S. team and Luke Donald from Europe.

While both players try to win the tournament, the week more importantly serves as a fruitful recruiting trip, as they can keep a close eye on the form of potential players for their respective teams.

For the 47-year-old Donald, he has only a scant chance of making the cut on Quail Hollow, which is too long for him to compete as one of the shorter hitters in the field. But that doesn’t make this a lost week for him as he tries to sort out the proper fits for his team that will take on the U.S. side Sept. 26-28 at Bethpage Black.

For the 38-year-old Bradley, who based on his 2011 PGA victory would be qualified to be in the field this week anyway, he still holds onto at least the slight chance of playing well enough to qualify on points as a player for the team he captains.
