Kansas City re-signs veteran CB L’Jarius Sneed in secondary boost

The Kansas City Chiefs are reuniting with one of the key pieces of their recent championship defenses, agreeing to a one-year contract worth up to $5 million with veteran cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move brings Sneed back to the franchise that selected him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and helped develop him into one of the NFL’s top defensive backs.

Sneed spent his first four NFL seasons in Kansas City, becoming a cornerstone of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s unit. During his tenure with the Chiefs, he appeared in 57 games, recording 10 interceptions, 40 passes defended, and 6.5 sacks while helping Kansas City win back-to-back Super Bowls during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Sneed enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2022 when he registered 108 total tackles, 11 passes defended, three interceptions, and 3.5 sacks. He followed that performance with another strong campaign in 2023, recording 78 tackles and 14 passes defended while earning recognition as one of the league’s premier cover corners.

Chiefs add proven veteran to secondary

Kansas City traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans before the 2024 season, but injuries limited his effectiveness. Over two seasons with Tennessee, he appeared in just 12 games and failed to record an interception. Sneed totaled 26 tackles and three pass breakups in seven games during the 2025 season. The Titans released him in March, making him a free agent.

Now 29 years old, Sneed returns to a revamped Chiefs secondary looking to recapture the form that made him one of the NFL’s most versatile defensive backs. For Kansas City, the reunion provides veteran leadership, familiarity with the defensive system, and a proven playmaker as the Chiefs prepare for the 2026 season.
