Kalen DeBoer shares thoughts on Texas Head coach Steve Sarkisian

Atlanta, GA -- Kalen DeBoer and Steve Sarkisian have something in common: both are closely connected to Nick Saban. DeBoer took over Saban's Alabama dynasty, while Sarkisian coached under Saban at Alabama. Additionally, both coaches are in their first season in the SEC.

The last game Texas played before joining the SEC was against DeBoer and the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl, held in New Orleans. The Longhorns lost that game to Washington, 31-37. The CFP National Championship was held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, where Washington fell short against Michigan.

DeBoer commented on Sarkisian on Wednesday, saying, "Coach Sark is an elite football mind, elite football coach. He's been doing it as a coordinator, head coach on a high level." He added that even after the Sugar Bowl in 2023, his respect for Sarkisian did not change. DeBoer noted that Sarkisian evolved and made the necessary adjustments during his transition to the SEC, allowing him to not only compete for a championship but also to participate in the playoffs.

"It showed just even in his transition to the SEC last year that he evolved and made those adjustments and did the things he had to do to put himself in a spot to not just be playing for a championship, but also in the Playoffs."
